The patch library
The library mirrors the V-Synth's memory: every patch as well as its internal settings. The sidebar lists these in three sections.
The three sections
| Section | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Synth | System and Setup, the instrument's global settings: tuning, equalizer, MIDI receive settings, controllers, which patch each Part plays, and so on. |
| Temporary Area | The sixteen Parts the V-Synth can play now. In its default single-Part mode, Part 1 is what you hear. Only the Parts whose Receive Switch is on are listed; click Show 15 More beside the heading to list all sixteen. |
| Work Area | The 512 patches of the project the V-Synth has loaded available to use. |
Sending to a Work Area slot stores the patch in the V-Synth's memory immediately, replacing what was there. The app can undo the edit on the Mac, but not on the instrument. The change is lost when the V-Synth is turned off unless you save the project on the V-Synth in the DISK › Save Project screen.
The marks beside a patch
| Mark | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green check | The app and the V-Synth hold the same thing, as of the last load or send. |
| Orange pencil | Edited since the patch was last loaded, sent, imported, opened or saved. The same mark appears on each group, tab and setting that changed, so you can find the edit. |
| Grayed name | An empty, initialized patch in a Work Area slot, shown with the factory default name to help you find your way around. |
| Italic name | Only the name has been read from the V-Synth (see below). The patch itself has not been loaded. |
| Tag | The patch has keywords or a note. |
| Radio waves | Live Edit is on for this Part. |
Finding a patch
- Type in the search field at the top of the sidebar to filter by name or keyword.
- Click the filter button in the search field to search by any setting, keyword or note. See Advanced search.
- To see the real names of the patches on the instrument without loading each one, choose Data › Load Patch Names from V-Synth (⌥⌘L). It reads only the names, about a minute to load all 512, and fills only slots that hold nothing loaded or edited.
Starting over and going back
- Init Patch, under the sidebar's search field or in the Data menu, replaces the selected patch with the V-Synth's own initial patch: the same one the instrument's PATCH Init makes. It asks first, and you can undo it.
- Revert Patch, beside it, returns the patch to what it was when it was last loaded, sent, imported, opened or saved. Revert Group (or Revert Section, in the Engineer layout) does the same for the part of the patch on screen. Both can be undone.
- System and Setup can be reverted, but not initialized.
Several patches at once
Shift-click or Command-click to select several patches. The editor then shows how many are selected instead of the single patch settings. You can drag the selection out to the Finder as one MIDI file, directly onto a DAW window to paste MIDI into the DAW (see Exporting), or right-click the selection and tag them all with the Keywords submenu of the shortcut menu.
Replacing a Part with a Work Area patch
Drag a Work Area patch onto a Part in the Temporary Area. The app asks before it replaces the Part; one ⌘Z puts the Part back. Send the Part, or have Live Edit on, to hear it on the instrument.
