Loading, sending and Live Edit
Loading from the V-Synth
Select a patch, System or Setup and click Load from V-Synth in the editor's header (⌘L). The app reads the whole thing from the instrument and replaces what the library held. A patch takes about five seconds. A load can be undone.
Sending to the V-Synth
Click Send to V-Synth to write what is on screen to the same place on the instrument. Before it sends, the app checks that the V-Synth answers; if it does not, nothing is sent and a dialog says what to check.
- Sending a Temporary Area Part changes what the instrument is playing. It is lost when the V-Synth loads another patch or is switched off.
- Sending a Work Area patch stores it in the instrument's patch memory immediately, replacing what was in that slot. It is lost when the instrument is turned off unless you save the project on the V-Synth in the DISK › Save Project screen.
- Sending Setup can change which patch each Part in the Temporary Area plays.
Sending cannot be undone on the instrument. To keep what a Work Area slot holds, load it into the library first, or save a project on the V-Synth.
One transfer at a time
While a load or send is running, a progress bar appears in the editor's header and at the foot of the window, with a stop button beside it. The other MIDI commands wait until it is done.
Live Edit
Live Edit links a Temporary Area Part to the same Part on the V-Synth, so you hear each change as you make it. Turn it on with the Live Edit switch above the group list. Each Part has its own switch.
- When you turn it on, the app first brings the two into step. If the Part is marked edited, the app sends it. Otherwise it loads the version on the instrument.
- From then on, every change in the app goes to the instrument at once: sliders, drags, pastes, undo, Revert, Init Patch and Auto Compose.
- With Tx Edit on in the V-Synth's SYSTEM › MIDI USB settings, changes made on the instrument's panel come back into the app too.
- While Live Edit is on, Revert returns the Part to what it was when you turned Live Edit on.
- Choosing another patch on the instrument ends Live Edit for that Part, because the Part no longer holds the patch the app is showing.
Live Edit works only with Temporary Area Parts. The V-Synth cannot play Work Area patches until they are copied to a Temporary Area Part.
Watching the MIDI traffic
The MIDI Monitor (Window › MIDI Monitor, ⇧⌘M) lists every message the app sends and receives, decoded, with the reason for any it had to ignore. Select rows and press ⌘C to copy them, which is useful when asking for support.
