A/D Information Display and Calibration

To display the current state of all analog-to-digital converters (that detect the XP-80's controller changes) as well as calibrate the Pitch Bend and Modulation lever:

  1. Turn the unit on.
  2. Enter the SYSTEM/System Information screen (press SYSTEM then F6 (Info)).
  3. Press and hold the F6 (Info) button while pressing the 1 (one) number button.

The SYSTEM/A/D Information screen will be displayed. All analog-to-digital converter status information is shown. Calibration of the Pitch Bend and Modulation lever is possible by moving the Pitch Bend lever to its extremes as well as the Modulation portion of the lever to its extreme. These values are not retained after the unit is switched off. Manual calibration is possible through the use of the VALUE dial and INC and DEC buttons. Manual calibration is required for the “Mid-L:H” values of the Pitch Bend lever. This is the resting point “buffer zone.” No Pitch Bend data will be sent between the values specified here. The "Mid-L:H" values are retained when the unit is switched off.

  4. Press the F6 (Info) button to return to the SYSTEM/System Information screen.

This is a diagnostics test of all the XP-80’s hardware and analog-to-digital converters including LCD tests, button tests, Pitch Bend and Modulation lever calibration, and disk drive testing. You are given the option of initializing RAM to the default factory settings after having completed or exiting the diagnostics test.

XP-80s with Flash ROMs

(Taken from the Roland US Help Desk web site here).

Some XP-80s have Flash ROM installed. Flash ROM provides a convenient way to update the XP-80 operating system. The current operating system can be installed using a software update procedure (instead of having to physically remove parts and replace them with new ones.) Units with the following serial numbers have Flash ROM installed.

ZI-10100 through ZI-10199
ZI-42854 through ZI-53099
