Patch Parameters--Ring Modulator Operation

Ring Modulator operation graphic
(XP-80 Owner's Manual, pg. 50. Copyright 1996, Roland Corp.). This graphic illustrates how the Ring Modulator works (used in Tone Structures 5 through 10). A ring modulator works by taking an inharmonic multiple (the high-frequency wave at the bottom of the graphic above) of an input signal (the low-frequency wave at the top of the graphic above) and multiplying the two together. This causes a "ringing" (high pitch sound) to be heard on top of the original waveform.
